Laurie is on extended leave from Pilates Seattle International and is not currently teaching.

Laurie is a true Renaissance person. She has worked as a guide on the Milford Track in New Zealand, a winemaker in Washington, a facilities manager in Hawaii, and in a variety of positions in the computer industry. She has rock climbed across the Southwest, cross country ski-raced, track-raced at the velodrome, and bicycle toured many places in North America and Europe. She is a Master Gardener and has degrees in computer programming and Art History/Intellectual Property from the Colorado College.

Laurie believes that fantastic posture and a great smile are a person’s best friend. She loves Pilates because it supports the posture, makes people smile, and gives them enormous energy. It is as fun to teach Pilates as it is to practice it. It is a wonderful gift to be able to pass on her knowledge about how to feel great and have more stamina. Having worked in the computer industry, Laurie understands the analytical mind frame and how to get highly focused people to relax, move, and feel refreshed in under an hour.

Laurie discovered Pilates while working in the software industry in the 1980’s and 1990’s. She took mat classes as a way to re-energize and re-focus her long work days. After the birth of her daughter in 1995, she left the software industry. This gave her time to raise her daughter and pursue other passions. Gardening was one such passion and she became a Master Gardener. With all of the bending to lift little people or large plants, Laurie realized that she needed to get serious about strengthening her powerhouse. She started taking 2 private sessions and 1 mat class weekly. She was thoroughly impressed at how quickly she achieved greater strength, more flexibility, and more efficiency in all of her activities. At that point, she realized that Pilates is a gift that she wanted to give to people and that she needed to become certified to teach it.

Laurie trained with Dorothee VandeWalle and taught at Metropolitan Pilates. She continued her training with Lori Coleman-Brown, Lauren Stephen, Sari Mejia-Santo and was certified by Romana Kryzanowska in 2007. She keeps current with pilates practices by taking Continuing Education and anatomy classes from Romana Kryzanowska, Sari Mejia-Santo, Juanita Lopez, Lori Coleman-Brown, Lauren Stephen, Roxanne Richards-Huang, Anthony Rabara, and Jay Grimes. She has taught at PSI since 2007 and occasionally teaches at Kinesia Pilates in Seattle and the SJCC in Mercer Island.

When Laurie is not teaching Pilates, she volunteers at her daughter’s school, gardens, reads, travels, and cross trains outside.
