Posted on January 10, 2020 by Beth Brooks
Due to the pandemic, Javier’s workshops have been postponed until Fall/Winter 2020. Watch for more details
Master Instructor Romana’s Pilates & Biographer of Joseph Pilates

Javier Pérez Pont worked as a professional dancer for over 15 years, both as a soloist and principal dancer, in several European dance companies.

In 1994, he discovered the Pilates Method and, after two years, was inspired to become an instructor himself, studying with legendary teacher-trainers Romana Kryzanowska and Sari Mejía Santo. After earning his certification, he opted to spend two more years working alongside his teachers in order to deepen his knowledge, eventually rising to Level II in the international organization as a teacher-trainer.

In late 1999 he and his partner, Esperanza Aparicio Romero, returned to Spain, choosing Barcelona as the location for their first studio, with the endorsement and support of their two mentors.

In 2002, they started the Instructor Certification Program in Spain under the tutelage of the aforementioned master teachers. Since then, Javier Pérez has introduced the Pilates Method at countless conventions all over Spain and internationally, in addition to speaking about it on television and radio.

Currently, in addition to running his studio and Instructor Certification Program, he continues to collaborate with Romana’s Pilates by teaching at international seminars and workshops.

In 2005, Esperanza Aparicio and Javier Pérez Pont published the first book by Spanish authors on the Pilates Method, with the title The Authentic Pilates Method, The Art of Control. It was not only a bestseller in Spain but also throughout the Spanish-speaking world. The work has been translated into Portuguese.

In 2013, they published under the HakaBooks imprint, a series of seven volumes in Spanish as eBooks collectively entitled Contrology. Pilates Physical Culture Collection. The books cover Pilates “apparatology” techniques and have been translated into both English and Portuguese.

The same year saw their publication of the first Biography of the inventor of the method. Hubertus Joseph Pilates – Biography represents a before-and-after in knowledge about the life of the inventor of Contrology. It also debunks many of the myths repeated over the years about Joe Pilates, presenting the facts about his eventful life and the history of the Method. The work has since been translated into English and Italian.

Today Javier Pérez continues to travel the world doing outreach for Contrology in its original form and speaking on the biography of the master. In 2017 he became a Level X Romana’s Pilates Instructor.
